*Please note this class is specifically designed for individuals working in a long term care skilled nursing setting. There may be students taking this course that work in an assisted living center, adult day health care or mental health setting. We need to emphasize that the instruction is geared toward Title 22 requirements and OBRA guidelines for an activity program in a long-term care setting.

Adequate English reading and writing skills are required for completion of the course.

About Class

Students will learn the California Dept. of Public Health Title 22 and Federal OBRA (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) regulations as they pertain to the position of the activity leader and activity program requirements. Coursework will include training on all documentation requirements and activity program development. Curriculum will cover how to adapt programs for various disabilities and the psychosocial aspects of aging.

Student must be 18 years of age and have adequate English language skills.

WHAT TO BRING:     Pen, paper, sack lunch*
(*Class is located at Garden Crest Rehabilitation Center which is in a residential neighborhood.  There are no businesses nearby to purchase food. Vending machines on-site have limited items. Students are asked to bring their own snacks/food. Coffee and water will be provided.)

The class instruction, as noted above, is geared toward Title 22 and OBRA guidelines for employment as an activity leader or activity assistant in a long term care, skilled nursing facility. This certification can also be used for an activity staff member in an adult day health care or assisted living facility.

Each class is limited enrollment. Recommend sending payment with application as soon as possible to guarantee a space.
Payment MUST BE MADE IN FULL before the first class to complete registration/enrollment.

Step One:

Exit the 101 Freeway at Vermont Avenue

Head North on Vermont Avenue
Left if coming from the Valley
Right if coming from Downtown


Step Two:

Go to the second stop light, Melrose Ave.
Turn Right on Melrose.


Step Three:

Melrose dead-ends just East of Hoover, on Lucile.

Turn Left on Lucile, to the top of the hill.

Step Four:
Garden Crest is on your left once the road flattens out at the top of the hill.

Parking lot is accessible behind Garden Crest on Hyperion Ave near Melrose Ave.
Limited parking available on Lucile Ave. No student parking in lot adjacent to facility.
